iT'S STreeT arT THurSDay! with Malibu morning picture - Thursday, August 6, 2015

Dear Street Art Lovers et al. (and if you go by "Al," yes, I mean you too ...),

It's time again for seeing what talented people do when faced with an opportunity to throw paint up on a wall (whether invited to or not ...).

Artist: unattributed, RUNBOY, A Lamentation of War, paint on concrete.

OK, OK, it takes three snapshots to see all of this wall, and I intentionally am leading off with the naked woman as click-bait. That's as racy as this mural gets--implied nipples, the artist did not articulate this woman's anatomy. She may be wearing a skin-colored unitard for all we know.

What we have here seems to be blow-ups of engraving illustrations which are in turn laced in-and-out of some large yellow-ochre letters.

The letters spell out the word "RUNBOY." We have a suffering woman, agitated animals, both an unsaddled horse and a crow/raven, two soldiers (appear to be in Roman garb), a woman maybe hanging out laundry, and possibly a Greek chevalier (ancient Greeks depicted their warriors nearly naked in battle).

Over on the far right it looks like we have the boy who is being instructed to run, carrying a crossed-keys banner of unknown alliance. He is carrying a key ring and he is dressed many centuries later than the other inhabitants of this wall.

The context shot.
All of this sits on the side of huge building in Hollywood (on Santa Monica Boulevard east of Highland)--the building used to be an old ice factory. It's gone through many iterations both industrial and event-venue. But all of this high drama is very exciting to drive by. I really enjoy looking at it every time I find a need to drive to the Target or Best Buy at Santa Monica and La Brea. A lot of Angelenos think La Brea is where the boundary between "The Westside" and the netherworld sits.

There's even a little more to this mural to the left, but I'll post that next week. It's very different graphically so this needs to stand on its own. This is technically outside of my definition of East Hollywood, but I digg it so much that I have to put it on special exhibit here on the "Hell's Edge Museum of Street Art." It's so big you can't get far enough away to get it head-on all in one snapshot, but here it is drastically foreshortened. Bravo artiste, whoever you are.

AND NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED SEASCAPE:

We've got various layers and stripes of clouds lining the sky over the land this morning. And over the water we've got this. Nice and blue eh?

I think this set of what looks to be remnant jet trails looks like a mermaid in dive pose. Who knows? Maybe today's mural has just made me want to see nude human female torsos in everything I happen to look at. ("Why Larry, I never noticed what a nice rack of man-tits you got on you! You really should start wearing V-necks...")

Anyway, hope you all are having a great Thursday.

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
