Malibu morning picture of the day - Giving Tuesday, Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Dear Family, Friends, and Gentle Readers,

It's that rare rainy day of late in Greater Los Angeles.

Gray, wet, no horizon to speak of, unless you're here in person. According to weather reports, it'll be like this tomorrow too. Five inches predicted in the hills--look for us in the national news tomorrow with mudslides.

(An associate of mine tells me that mudslide weather always reminds him of a famous internet meme of 2 young ladies sharing a single cup of hot chocolate, sounds charming--I have NO idea what he's talking about, do you?)

And Angelenos, let me say it's OK for you to slow down a couple MPH on rain-soaked, oil-slicked streets. I assure you, it will not downgrade your official, hard-earned Extreme Driver Aggressiveness Index Rating, I promise.

I heard on the news that today is so-called "Giving Tuesday." Pardon me while I take a minute to try to sort these all out for myself. OK first there's:

I'm sorry you boys have to sit on the floor, we ran out of folding chairs.
Love the hat. Ethical feathers and buckskin, I'm sure.
You came all the way from the Dakotas I hear?
Dear, can we tune in the Redskins game for our guests?

Thanksgiving Thursday - I think we FINALLY need to add the day of the week now to keep it clear and the pattern consistent, don't you? This is the special day you go out and buy food, cook it, and eat it with your family. How is this different from dinner?

Black Friday - Go out and buy stuff at national chain stores. Some advice from Pops to save your sanity, put it in your budget to park valet. So worth it...

Small Business Saturday - Go out and buy stuff at Mom-n-Pops, instituted by a credit card company, isn't that nice of them?

___???___ Sunday - this one doesn't seem to be taken yet; I nominate Cineplex Sunday, the day you go out and buy movie tickets and watch some schmaltzy, sappy melodrama

Cyber Monday - Go to the office and buy stuff online instead of doing the job your boss paid you to do; BUT it's OK because it supports the economy which permits you to have that job...

Giving Tuesday - Essentially, buy stuff for someone else not related to you ... this is a GOOD thing, preferably a 501(c)(3) organization

___???___ Wednesday - undesignated; we need to fill out the week, somebody think of something quick! If this were Colorado, I'd suggest Wednesday 420 or Weedy Wednesday, jus' so everyone can chill ... finally (basically go out and score and then go out and buy munchies; this will be a boon to fast-food restaurants, think of the promotions)

BUT finally, there was a learned Christian thinker who advised us "do not observe days." I think he had us in mind when he wrote that.

Well, I haven't bought anything but lunch in the last few days--whoa, I didn't even do that. The other person was buying. I feel like a traitor ...

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
