Today I don my hat as the curator of the "Out of Bounds" Gallery of the East Hollywood Online Museum of Street Art, and I share with you some art from the Del Amo shopping mall, there's quite a bit so I'm going to fill Tuesdays for a few weeks with images.
Artist brainsandneedles, Girl Likes Mowgli, paint on shopping center. |
So, I thought, why not display this streetart treatment of characters from the earlier version rendered on the side of the Del Amo shopping center? Here we have the village girl with a update of her flirt with Mowgli.
Did you ever wonder how Mowgli cut his hair off above the shoulders, seeing as how he was raised by wolves? But pushing literary conceits to logical conclusions never ends well in animated fantasies for children, so I'll just stop there having made my point.
For those of you who love Kirby, see how happy he is down in the lower left, zooming along on the tree planter ...
Artist unatrributed, GZER, paint on shopping center. |
This work is pretty huge. A full-size adult comes up to about the top of his upper lip, I'd say.
Artist unattributed, Bear-Knuckle Boxer, paint on shopping center. |
The elephants are a repeated element from another mural, but you'll see them in a future installment.
I was riding the train to Long Beach when I happened to catch this bear (very easy to see from an elevated train track) and I said to myself, "You need to get off on this stop and look around on the trip back."
When I say the Del Amo shopping center, most of you probably are thinking of this place, in the city of Torrance, the Del Amo Fashion Center.
But no. Let's get that cognitive dissonance out of your head right now. Just a bit to the east in the neighborhood of Willowbrook, which is often paired with its next-door neighbor Watts, we have the Del Amo Family Plaza:
There is quite a difference in ambience, don't you think? I'm willing to bet that the rent is much cheaper (and the prices) in Del Amo Willowbrook.
AND NOW BACK TO OUR REGULAR SEASCAPE
Loads of high clouds this morning...
And here's your second look.
OK, time to get back to work here. If you're diggin' Del Amo Willowbrook, come back next Tuesday.
Love (Amo),
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
