Malibu morning picture of the day - Monday, October 26, 2015

Dear Family, Friends, and Gentle Readers,

This is our start to the week. Crimson clouds at dawn.

We've got really clear silhouettes of the distant mountains to the southeast some 100-150 miles away. This is the 6:50 AM view in Malibu. Mondays are now early-start for me. It's a little more conventionally pale blue to the direct south.

Looks like we're shaping up to be a nice clear week with moderate temperatures in the Southland in the days leading up to Halloween.

King Gillette Ranch
Just seven miles up the canyon road from my employer is the King Gillette Ranch, now a public park but originally the home of the guy who invented the disposable razor of Gillette fame. We had a department retreat up there and it's a place to wander around the natural chaparral environment that is Southern California (or what used to be). It's the site of the largest Chumash settlement in California.

We had hikes and a nature talk given by one of our natural science profs who specializes in the local ecology. I recommend checking it out if you're in the area. You'll definitely learn something.

Hope it's nice wherever you are. And I hope you had a nice weekend. Me? I was reminded of the aging process when I climbed up on my roof to measure the length of rotting splashboard that needs to be replaced. You don't realize how much strength you need in your body to feel secure on a sloped roof leaning over the edge ... until you note that you don't have such strength anymore. So, it's time to call in a carpenter and hire it out. Shoot.

Have a great Monday and the rest of the week!

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
