"4 Guardians of East Holly" and Malibu morning pic of the day - Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Dear Family, Friends, and Gentle Readers,

We've got a nice seascape picture today, but I decided I wanted to share these "Guardian Images" from my barrio/hood. They're not as fully developed as things I mount on Thursdays, but I want to show them nonetheless.

There's a martial arts dojo near my house (actually there are several), but at this one I think they specialize in the techniques of the Philippines and Brazil. There are four figures painted on the pillars that face Vermont Avenue. They're very unschooled in painting technique, rough, raw, the hands look like paddles--but I walk by them often and I enjoy the energy that the artist has captured in these images.

Artist unattributed,
4 East Hollywood Guardians, paint on stucco.
The artist is unattributed. Here on the left we have a fellow in mid-midair-kick.

Here on the right is a limber fellow doing his stretching routine. He is strongly side-lit.

These folks here are executing a dance, with the drummer-musician on the left and the dancer on the right.

Simple as these rendering are, you can see a lot of attention to detail on the drums, in the shading of the flesh and clothing, and in the poses of the "guardians" themselves.

This quartet of spirit powers has been looking over this corner (Vermont and Sta Monica) for years. Now let us look upon in gratitude for their perseverance.

AND NOW FOR OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED SEASCAPE:

We had the sun lighting up a cloud giving us the hint of a rainbow. You can almost see it in the middle--the camera doesn't pick it up so well.

Here's a second look to the south, not pointing to the color-distorting Sun. We've got a cerulean blue sky again that we've been enjoying off-and-on of late.

Cerulean upstairs, ultramarine downstairs. A nice pairing today.

Time to pay the rent. Have a great Tuesday.

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
