Malibu morning picture of the day - iT'S STreeT arT THurSDay! - Thursday, March 5, 0215

Dear Family, Friends, and Gentle Readers,

Today's mural takes me out of my usual sphere of operation and we see something going on elsewhere in town.

Artist: Magee, Girl in Dream Landscape, paint on stucco.

Artist signature
This vision gives us an adolescent girl paddling her way through a lake of flowers--a dream landscape. This is not executed right out of spray cans or airbrushes.

This is a painting done in the style of the impressionists who very visibly show us the strokes. Splotches of highly contrasting color right next to each other give definition, depth, and visual excitement.

I think that overall this work reads as being light and airy, but if you really look at hard at the colors, they are laid on deep, highly concentrated, and very dark in much of the treatment.
The entire wall, plus cars

This has obviously been up a while. Weather has made the colors run and trickle, but I think  the artist (makers mark is "Magee") intentionally had color drip and dribble down Jackson Pollock style.

This is such a sweet work. Everything is so brash and pushy on the walls in my neighborhood. It's a welcome change to see a naturalistic treatment of a female on a mural.

There is also a utility box in front of this which the artist has likewise covered with the late of flowers.

This can be found at the corner of Sepulveda and Lindblade in West LA.

I caught sight of it on my way to the only shop that I know of that regularly stocks tie-dyed tee-shirts and a wide variety of Dickies work wear (T-Shirt Warehouse, go there and help keep them in business...).

Does this imagery have an relation to the business within? As far as I can tell, no. At first I thought maybe a bookstore, but it's a couple of restaurants here. There is a nice comic book store here though.

MALIBU MORNING PICTURE OF THE DAY

And here's what it looked like today, just a few more miles to the west of this young lady.

Clear blue with remnants of jet trails at 7:15 AM.

Have a wonderful Thursday you all.

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
