It's Street Art Thursday--I've decided to move the chosen mural art into the headline spot on Thursdays so that my social media readers get the street art at first glance--the oceanscape lovers know to dig down a click.
Untitled young woman with halo by the "Master of Normandie Avenue, paint on stucco |
This week we move away from the works more overtly inspired by graffiti typography and classic humorous illustration to a work that is more realistic and painterly. There is no obvious signature on this work at the corner of Normandie Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd., so I will just call the artist "The Master of Normandie."
I see in this work influences of European baroque oil painting, the use of spotlight-like highlighting on the subject, Chiaroscuro shading (extreme dark surrounding the illuminated figure). The replication of an oil painting vibe is especially well done when you stand before this work.

While looking baroque, the painter's approach is pointillist when you take a look at the detail. The separation of "strokes" and "dots" make the image vibrate.
This one stuns you as you drive up on it. It's worth checking out in person.

Here's today's view on the coast.

Hope your week has been shaping up as you hoped.

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
