Malibu morning picture of the day - Friday, January 9, 2015

Dear Family, Friends, and Gentle Readers,

It's Friday and here is what it looks like out here at the edge at 7:30 AM.

I thought that of the set I took today, this one is a nice complement to the backlit tree taken on Wednesday--a backlit solid cloud with macaroni-like cloud waves emanating out like branches.

A second and third look are here. I include these because these two were optical illusions if you were standing there in person. Both are looking over flat ocean. Anything you see that looks structural is a cloud.

The top photo shows clouds that look like breaking waves. If that were an actual breaking wave (imagine an massive oil tanker under the break), it would be of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami magnitude. I'd have gotten back into the car and floored it to the highest parking slot on campus, and then run for the top of the hill.

A phantom tsunami (no accompanying earthquake) is not an unreasonable thought here given that we've got a major submarine canyon off Santa Monica that could give us a nice underwater landslide. BUT ... those are rare events ... and it's in the 70s here in January ... so it's all good right? Don't worry, be happy now!

The bottom photo is a dark cloud that looks like part of the continent shrouded in fog. Makes you understand how fairy tales about floating islands and floating mountains get started.

Hope you have nice weekend plans in store. I'm going to see if I can talk anyone into going to go see Into the Woods with me (It's a hard sell, Sondheim musicals are such downers ... remember Sweeney Todd?).

Love,
Pops

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
