Malibu morning picture of the day - Tuesday, April 6, 2014

Happy Tuesday all!

Today is a blue sky with sparse, clotted clouds that remind of the scum you get when you're boiling down bones to make broth. So here you have it, "sky broth."

Here's a few looking like they're struggling to get over the hills...

And just one more from the set.

I am going to attend a lecture this evening by author Amy Tan, who is being interviewed by Lisa See--two Chinese American authors who have managed to break through in sales to mainstream audiences. Thank goodness somebody does.

I'll report if they say anything worthwhile. Tan is selling a book. We'll see if it's all marketing.

One of the criticisms I frequently hear about the writing of both is the same one I hear about other female authors from non-European (e.g. Alice Walker) is that they make the men from their respective groups look like buffoons and cads.

From a fiction-writer standpoint I can totally understand that stance. Idiots and jerks are always more interesting people to write and read about (since we all know some). A good protagonist needs someone comparatively bad to stand against. Happily and perfectly matched people are pretty boring. In fact, that's conceit of my book that I'm unfolding to you in this blog. It's basically about two boring people trying to get back to their boring life together.

See you tomorrow.

Love,
Pops

PS: Here's the bookend pics when I left work at 6:30ish.

The clouds were still trying to reach over the hills.

And toward the sun in the west. A warm, golden quality.

Be truthful and frank, but be polite. If you use excessive profanity, I'll assume you have some kind of character flaw like Dr. Wong. Tks!
